This year, Phil Niekro will be honored by the MPB Players Alumni Association – Atlanta Chapter for his outstanding contributions to the sport of baseball in Atlanta community. 

Phil is a native of Blaine, Ohio and had 318 career victories in the MLB from 1964 to 1987, making him the winningest knuckleball pitcher of all time, and currently ranking him 16th on the all-time wins list.  Phil added five National League Gold Glove Awards and played in five MLB All-Star games. Phil was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in ‘97.

The MLBPAA Charity Reception and Golf Classic helps raise much need funds that help promote the game of baseball in and around the Atlanta community.  This event also continues the tradition of donating a portion of the proceeds from the silent auction to the GA Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
